<image:caption>Saw-Whet owl. I had been looking for this little own for several days. One morning I was looking high up in a pine tree where it had been spotted the day before. Not seeing it, I turned around to leave the trail and there it was. It was at eye level in a tangle of vines no more than 10-15 feet away. This is my luckiest and favorite owl photo.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A beautiful male Pileated Woodpecker. I had wanted to get a photograph of one for 2 years, I’d seen them high in the trees or flying overhead but couldn’t get a photo of one. One morning I ventured down to Beaver Marsh and within 5 minutes on the trail I heard the pounding of a woodpecker. I turned around and there, no more than 15 feet behind me at eye level, was this big guy. I must have taken 50-60 photos and it paid me no mind at all.</image:caption>

I didn’t realize it had a Red-winged Blackbird riding on its back until I checked later to see if they were in focus. Red-winged Blackbirds are fearless when another bird invades its nest area.</image:caption>
